OpenLink Releases Incremental Update to Multi-Model RDBMS & Data Virtualization Combo

Virtuoso 7.2.2 Provides Enhancements To Modern Data Access, Integration, and Management

BURLINGTON, MA. -- February 22, 2016 -- OpenLink Software, Inc., today unveiled the latest edition of Virtuoso, its modern multi-model relational data management and conceptual data virtualization platform, that provides a secure, cross-platform, high-performance, massively-scalable, and cost-effective solution for managing, integrating, and sharing insightful analytics over disparate data sources. This latest product release delivers key innovations aimed at data diversity, with particular impact on Data Analytics, Data Lakes, Data Virtualization, and Data Flow.

Flexible Solutions to Data Access & Integration Challenges

Data variety, volume, and velocity are perennial impediments to enterprise- and social-media-oriented data integration projects aimed at increasing the agility of organizations and individuals alike.

By focusing on common structured data formats (e.g., CSV, HTML) and existing data access protocols (HTTP, SPARQL, SQL, ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, WebDAV, LDP, IMAP, CalDAV, CardDAV, and a number of platform-specific Social Media APIs), this release of Virtuoso significantly reduces the direct and indirect costs of creating conceptual layering over disparate data, thereby unleashing unrivaled levels of enterprise and individual agility.

Real-world challenges driving changes in this update included:

  • Data Flow Problems -- such as enabling flow of data across documents and folders hosted in IMAP4, WebDAV, LDP, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and others
  • Storage Choice Problems -- solved by virtualizing storage across Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, WebDAV, LDP, etc.
  • Spam Handling -- addressed with intelligent email filtration and organization
  • Fluid integration of all of the above into the underlying Virtuoso RDBMS, while keeping all data accessible via open data access standards (HTTP, SPARQL, ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, etc.)

Features Summary

Highlights of Release 7.2.2 include:

  • Enables exposure of filesystem-hosted CSV documents as Native Relational Data Sources, making them accessible via SPARQL and SQL
  • Automatically generates 5-Star Linked Data and Ontologies from CSV documents, via built-in Data Transformation Middleware
  • Automatically generates platform-agnostic conceptual views, atop Data Lakes comprised of data from disparate data sources
  • Advanced nanotation processor enables unrestricted creation and flow of structured data, via extraction of JSON-LD and RDF-Turtle embedded in any plain-text snippet, document, or HTML page
  • Faster R2RML processor generates semantically-rich conceptual web-like views over disparate ODBC and/or JDBC data sources
  • Additional Geo-Spatial Query functionality
  • New Data Transformation Cartridges (Drivers) transparently integrate Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), and Entity Extraction Services provided by Google Knowledge Graph and Babel into generation and publication of Linked Data
  • New & Improved Providers for Jena and Sesame Frameworks

A Pedigree of Innovation in Data Access, Integration, and Management Technology

"Virtuoso 7.2.2 continues to demonstrate OpenLink's profound mastery of data access, integration, and management technology in regards to individual and enterprise agility pursuits," said Kingsley Idehen, Founder & CEO, OpenLink Software.
